
Wayang wong mask, tapel, depicting Sugriwa. Mask carved from pule wood, with tiny nose above prominent jaws and furrowed ridge running vertically above nose to forehead. Mouth open with large canine in upper and lower jaw to each side; aperture below large round eyes. Face painted brown with black, red, gold and white details. An ear pendant at each earlobe. Facial hair indicated through five raised mounds along jaw line painted with black and gold swirls, and around the mouth in black paint with gold stripes. Row of more prominent mounds above brows, which are painted gold.Headdress of carved and painted leather with coronet. Projection at rear, which curves upwards and forward, is made of wood painted red and gold, while the remainder of the skull cap is covered in red velvet with decorative elements in carved and gilded leather terminating in a garuda finial at the rear. Pompom of red wool fixed to either side of the mask above the ears. Hook for hanging at top front behind coronet. Signed by the maker on the inside
