clothing; chemise

Woman's shift of cream linen fabric, formed of panels hand-stitched together with a flared skirt. Upright collar and front opening, which has no fastenings. Decorated with embroidery in black, violet, green and orange-brown around collar and front opening and along the hem of the skirt, with two vertical panels rising from this lower border at the back. The embroidery on the sleeve ends is in red and black, with green, blue and purple detailing. The panels covering the upper body and top part of lower body appear to be replacements to which the embroidered parts of an older garment or garments have been stitched by hand.
