A large, natural coloured weft pile textile. It is made from eight narrow strips, each about 150 mm wide, hand sewn together along the selvedges. In the centre is a large cream/light brown coloured square, worked with a soft spun singles cotton. (All the other pile is formed from fine plyed yarn.) The square has a black frame. A larger black frame, running along all four sides, in turn frames a wide cream coloured pile which contains a single black square. The warp ends have been knotted to form a macramé fringe.
This tufted textile may have been used to line a travelling hammock, placed in the middle section of the hammock to make it more comfortable and sweat absorbent for its passenger.
