textile (function unknown); textile

A large, natural coloured cotton textile made from ten narrow strips hand sewn together along the selvedges. The single weft is used twofold. A natural coloured pile (using plyed natural cotton) covers most of its surface. Two plain bands are left at each end and the warp ends are unfinished.

This tufted textile may have been used to line a travelling hammock, placed in the middle section of the hammock to make it more comfortable and sweat absorbent for its passenger.
