comb (hair ornaments)

Tortoisesell Comb with it's own cardboard box. Late 19th century, Spain. A very large comb, cut from tortoise-shell (concave-convex) with 9 short curved teeth. The decoration on the handle (open work) resembles a coronet with five points each headed up with a disc. The interstices are filled with a pattern of four petalled florets while the interstices between the discs are filled with a more complex design involving leaves. Presented in it’s own cardboard box.
