apron; textile

Large, long, woman's cotton apron. It has two panels and is gathered and sewn onto a thin band and tied with two narrow machine-made tapes. It has a deep embroidered border along the bottom and sides. The decoration comprises two large-scale rows of floral patterning interspersed with a row of narrower foliate patterning, all worked in strands of unplyed red cotton thread. A strip of machine-made cream-coloured needlepoint lace has been sewn by machine along the bottom and sides. [Textile]
