books (documentary artefacts)

Schoolboy's set of lesson books. Each book is woodblock printed, with thread-stitched binding. They are in a loose wooden cover (4813c). The books comprise four volumes of 'Xin Zeng You Xue Gu Shi Qiong Lin' (Newly Revised Preliminary Study Story Books), from an original copy compiled by Cheng Yun-sheng (Mr. Yun-sheng Cheng) in the late Ming period. This edition has annotation written by Zhou Sheng-mai (Mr. Sheng-mai Zhou) in the 25th year of Qianlong period (1760), published by 'Hua Lin Tang' (Hua Lin Studio).
