112.13 Vessel rattles

Anklet with pellet bells.

Anklet with three integral crotals or pellet bells. The brass or bronze anklet is cast in a C-shape. Each crotal has one stone pellet and is decorated on one side only. There is a slit in each crotal in the plane of anklet. The design on the bells on the left and right is identical: a cross with concentric circular arcs in each quadrant. The middle bell has concentric circles about the centre of its upper face.

This instrument is used by dancers to convert kinetic energy to rhythmic patterns which are integral to the musical content.
