Biography
Walter Bennett (1892-1971) was a professional geologist and amateur palaeontologist, who amassed a fossil collection comprising ca. 175,000 specimens, spanning 34 countries across the globe. After Bennett passed away, the collection went to the Croydon Natural History and Scientific Society, where a few choice pieces were selected for display whilst the rest was kept stored in wooden cabinets. Nearly 20 years later it was moved to the Horniman Museum and Gardens, and is currently undergoing a mass digitisation project.
