pipe (narcotics & intoxicants: smoking)

A pipe consisting of stem in two sections. One section is made from dark bamboo with a metal saddle that has a raised section that connects to the bowl. The saddle is decorated with incised lines, cut out section and embedded amethyst and jade stones along the top. The bamboo section has two bands of decorated metal on either end and a jade end piece. The other section of the pipe is made of undecorated ivory, with decorated metal bands on either end. There is a jade piece in the end of the ivory with a hole in the tip. The ivory section has wood underneath that has a tapered point that fits into the bamboo section and has paper and textile to act as wading. The pipe bowl is octagonal and carved from porphyry stone that is pink and grey in colour. There is an inscription along the side and a geometric pattern in a narrow band around the edge.
