Pair of shoes of black satin edged with braided trimming on rim. Lined with indigo cotton and a layer of leather inside. Wooden sole painted in black reinforced with leather on bottom. One shoe has a piece of red paper inside printed with Chinese inscriptions indicating at the top the name of the shop “悅新號yuè xīn hào” with four Chinese characters “貨真價實huò zhēn jià shí” above, which means that all goods in the shop are genuine and at fair prices. Below this is the text 本店磚造時樣家用顧繡花鞋, 配合大小女鞋底, 漢府緞入漆女皮鞋, 舖在粵東省城太平門外, 下九甫中約南向開張, 貴客光臨請認金葫蘆招牌為記, 庶不致悞。which indicates that the shop specialises in making household embroidered shoes for women, that the size of shoes can be customised, that their shoes are made of cotton brocade with a coating and that the shop is located outside the Tài Píng gate in Guangdong province. The golden calabash figure is the only trademark which represents the shop.
