tray (ritual & belief: religious buildings & furnishings)

Octagonal copper tray with slightly everted rim. Engraved decoration depicting Vishnu's footprint (Visnupada) with his symbols (including conch, turtle, axe, goad, fish) is set within a circle and with a lotus bud to each side. Handwritten printed label on reverse reads: 'Copper Tray with Vishnu's foot. Gaya. Bengal. INDIA.' Possibly an old exhibition label - the word 'India' is printed.
