print (ritual & belief: representations)

Memorial print (shini-e) for the kabuki actor Bando Shuka I (1813-1855; posthumously known as Bando Mitsugoro V), showing him bowing as he is greeted by King Enma, who presides over the afterlife. The inscription in the top right gives his posthumous Buddhist name, and age at death.
