Rectangular hanging depicting a multicoloured embroidered scene with appliquèd details. It depicts five Japanese figures picking tea, on a black satin ground. The black ground has been sewn together from two sections of almost equal width. The textile is backed with a tabby-woven cotton cloth decorated with a printed pattern, consisting of small pink floral motifs contained within linked green hexagonal frames. The edge is covered with a woven ribbon consisting of what appears to be paper strips and yarn.
