sample (textileworking: dyeing & printing); textile

Almost square sample of cotton decorated with hand-drawn double-sided batik in dark blue and light brown. The textile is seemingly from a larger cloth as some of the patterns on the hemmed edges are cut. The decoration consists of 3 rows of large motifs containing inward facing wings or 'lar'. The centre ones are slightly higher than the outside ones. They are displayed against a blue ground decorated with smaller floral motifs. The patterns are done in brown with some detailing showing the original cream colour of the cloth.
