The award recognises Kirsten’s services to museums.
Kirsten has worked at the Horniman for 34 years, initially as a conservator before joining senior management in 1998.
Alongside her responsibility for Conservation, Collections Management, Knowledge and Information Management, Exhibitions, Living Collections and the management of the Horniman’s estate across two sites (Forest Hill and our offsite Study Collections Centre), Kirsten has overseen all of our major redevelopment projects over the past three decades:
- the 2001 extension to mark the Horniman’s Centenary
- the redevelopment of the Aquarium
- the 2012 Gardens redevelopment
- and the redevelopment of the World Gallery and The Studio.
She is currently spearheading the transformational Nature + Love project which will create two new outdoor attractions alongside the redisplay of the Natural History Gallery.
It’s fair to say the Horniman wouldn’t be the same place without Kirsten, and this award is very well deserved. Congratulations, Kirsten!
I’m absolutely delighted to receive this award, it’s so lovely to have my hard work and achievements recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours list. There is no way I could have delivered everything I have without the support of my brilliant colleagues at the Horniman, I am so grateful to them all.
