In 1852 Richard Carte became a partner in the London-based musical instrument making firm Rudall & Rose, and the name was changed to Rudall, Rose & Carte. In 1854 the name was changed again, to Key, Rudall, Carte & Co. or Key, Rudall & Co., when the firm abosrobed the military instrument makers Key & Co.
