Peter Baldwin

Biography

Peter Baldwin donated musical instruments and ethnographic objects to the Horniman Museum from 2004 onwards. He writes 'In 1987 on a holiday in China I visited Kumbum Monastery in Qinghai province at the time of the Tibetan New Year festival, "Lhosar" and was captivated. During the following 20 years I have visited monasteries and nunneries, attending festivals - some shamanistic - including a sky burial in Tibet. Also Tibetan festivals in Ladakh and Assam in India. Trekking in Tibet culminated in the Saga Dawa Festival and the circumambulation, the "Kava", of the sacred mountain Kailash in western Tibet.'
