Welcome to Kusuma Nature Play Area!

Meet a robin, find a fox, follow a grass snake, spot the butterflies and help a bee.

Explore the play area, from the wooden jetty with a slide, to climbing webs and lookout points. Play equipment is themed around species local to the Horniman – look out for the timber rocker, nest hedge, and eggs in the robin area.

More adventurous visitors can enjoy log steps, timber balance beams, and a den building frame. Younger children will love the collecting table, leaf stools, and finger maze.

The play area also includes a basket swing and sensory planting.

After playing, why not come inside the Museum and learn more aboutthe natural world and world culture?

Animals Everywhere! The AR trail

Start the Animals Everywhere! and meet a cast of 3D animated animals hiding across the Gardens. It’s free to play, no downloads, adverts or hidden purchases – it opens straight in your browser.

Expect challenges and mini games to play along the way. You’ll feed a walrus, grow sunflowers to attract bees and meet a velociraptor. See if you can make it to the top of the daily leaderboard and collect badges as you go. Will you be able to find all the animals?

Gardens Cafe

Find the Gardens Cafe right next to the Play Area, and stay refreshed during playtime.

This family-friendly cafe offers sourdough pizzas, as well as a range of healthy grab-and-go options and year-round favourites, including artisan gelato and speciality coffee. Indoor and outdoor seating available.

The Gardens Cafe is run by the award-winning family-run cafe group, Colicci.

Nature Trail

Discover one of the oldest Nature Trails in London, a haven for London’s wildlife.

It is easy to access the Nature Trail from the Play Area, simply cross the Nightwalk Path by the new gates.

There is improved access via this gate, with a ramp up to the Nature Trail for those who find the stairs at other gates difficult.
