Luigi Palma di Cesnola, who excavated in Cyprus, in Amathus and Kourion, held 2 auctions in London (chez Sotheby) in January and May 1871. Later his brother Allesandro Cesnola organised another 4 auctions in London in 1883, 1884, 1888 and 1889. F.J.Horniman could very well have bought his ''Cyprian vases'' from one of these auctions. See P.S. O. Masson ''La dispersion des Antiquités Chypriotes: Les deux collections Cesnola'' in Cahier du Centre d'Etudes Chypriotes, p.4-27.
