busts (art)

Bronze sculpture of a woman's head made by Osaru Obaseki.

The title of this sculpture is Ame / Oyevbamen ‘Like Water’. The sculpture celebrates strong Edo women from history and today. The roots represent how Edo culture is rooted in tradition, but the waves show that, like water, Edo culture is dynamic and changes over time. The sculpture was created as part of a commission for the new Benin Kingdom case in 2024. Osaru Obaseki spent three weeks on an artist residency creating the piece at a bronze foundry at Winchester School of Art. The residency was supported by Art Fund.
