There is a rhyme on the front: 'And when my kite I wished to try / Who held the string to make it fly / While pleasure sparkled in my eye / My Father.' There is embossed decoration around the rim, and a transfer print decoration with added colour detail. On the base is a maker's mark, saying 'Stevenson'. The plate was made in Staffordshire.
