raised sandal (sandal (clothing: footwear))

Raised sandal, one of a pair, carved from one piece of wood, painted black at sides and upper surface of sole, pointed at rear and rounded point at front. Riased heel also pointed, front raised section extends below ball of foot. Surface of sole is decorated with squares of mother of pearl set in the wood at an angle to form two rows of diamonds running the length of the sole, wth further triangular sections inset in the middle of the foot. Arrow-shaped piece inlaid at either side of back of heel. Strap over front part of foot is covered in strip of green fabric, with further strips of cream fabric at either side. Top has strip of fabric decorated in gold-coloured metal supplementary weft stitched on. The strap is secured at each side with a narrow striop of leather fixed to the sandal with two nails.
