How will you remember a charity?

A gift in your will could inspire future generations of researchers, scientists and activists.

The second week of September is Remember A Charity Week.

It is a chance to consider leaving a legacy in your will to the charity that means the most to you, and a celebration of those who have chosen to support the Horniman in their will.

Why is remembering a charity in your will important?

After taking care of your loved ones, choosing a charity to remember in your will is an important decision, and a powerful way to support the future of the Horniman.

We want to continue to inspire visitors, be a welcoming place for families and learners, and to push the boundaries of what it means to be a museum, but we can only do that with your help. A gift in your will, no matter what size, could:

  • Fund the extensive collaborative work to help decolonise our collections, improve ethical museum practices and help to provide other institutions around the world with the framework to decolonise their own practices.
  • Help reach carbon neutrality and do everything we can to mitigate and educate our visitors on the climate emergency.
  • Help us carry out ocean saving research and experiments in coral regeneration.

And so much more!

We have partnered with Octopus Legacy to provide a free will writing service, where you can write your will and receive expert advice completely free of charge. To find out more about how to include the Horniman in your will, read our guide to will writing.

Be part of a transformational future

Did you know that more than 60% of those who leave a gift in their will are not known to the charity that receives their gift? We want to change that. If you have left or are planning to leave a gift in your will please get in touch with our Fundraising team.

Those who have pledged a legacy to the Horniman join an esteemed group of supporters, who can enjoy a closer relationship with our Museum and staff. You will receive invitations to events exploring behind the scenes developments at the Museum and in the Gardens, plus an annual update on activity at the Horniman.

What is Remember A Charity Week?

In the second week of September each year, Remember A Charity run an annual awareness campaign for legacy giving. It is a chance for charities like us to start conversations about leaving a gift to charity in your will, and to celebrate those who have made the powerful decision to protect the Horniman’s future.

Remember A Charity is an organisation for charities and solicitors to spread the word on the value of legacy gifts for the future of charities. They work with charities, a network of legal advisers, partners and Government to grow legacy giving all year round. Remember A Charity is part of the Chartered Institute for Fundraising.
