Why do we close our Gardens?
The events that we need to close the Gardens for are ticketed and take place across many areas of the Gardens. By closing the Gardens we can manage capacity and safety for those that are attending the event, and have adequate first-aid and toilet facilities in place.
It is also necessary to have the Gardens closed both before and after the event. This is so that we can set-up and clear away quickly and safely, a process that requires many vehicles to come onsite with equipment and deliveries.
When the Gardens are closed for events, it is still possible to visit the Horniman Museum as normal. Entry and exit is via London Road only.
All events in the Gardens help support the ongoing work of the Horniman.
In 2026 the Gardens will be closed fully on the following dates:
- 4 April
- 11 April
- 27 June

- 16 July from 4pm
- 25 July all day
- 30 July from 4pm
