Young Anthropologist Writing Competition

Are you a writer, aged 16 – 18 and interested in human cultures? Apply to the Goldsmiths Young Anthropologist Writing Competition.

The competition run by Goldsmiths, University of London, is asking the question, What do you hold dear?

They are looking for 1,000 word essay responses about an object or a photograph that means something to you. What is it, and why is it important to you? What stories can it tell?

The World Gallery at the Horniman asks our visitors this very question. This gallery and the Anthropology Collections show some of the ways ordinary people from every continent live their lives, caring for each other and making their way in the world.

Deputy Keeper of Anthropology and Goldsmiths Lecturer Johanna Zetterstrom-Sharp will be chairing the judging panel and all shortlisted entries will win a prize. The overall winner will receive £1,000, have their post published on the Horniman website, and receive an invitation to receive their trophy at a Goldsmiths event.

The closing date for entries is 12.05am on Monday 2 August 2021.
