Environment Champions Community

We are local people sharing ideas to help the environment and tackle climate change in our day-to-day lives.

Joining the ECC

The ECC is free to join. It consists of a Facebook group, a newsletter, and some in person events.

Join the Environment Champions Community Facebook group to find out what’s happening locally, link up with other people, and share what you are doing. This can be anything from community action days to tips for saving energy.

You can also sign up our mailing list to receive a newsletter all about events, projects and initiatives at the Horniman Museum and Gardens linked to our Climate and Ecology Manifesto. Just go to our mailing list sign up page, enter your contact details and select the ‘Environment Champions Community resources and activities’.

What can I expect to do when I join the ECC?

We will suggest activities you can do from home, at the Horniman or in your local community, to help you to take action in your daily life.

Activities could include:

  • Finding out how to support pollinators
  • Reducing plastic pollution with easy swaps
  • Cooking a meat free meal

There will also be a series of events throughout the year, from litter picks to workshops.

Each one of us can make small positive changes in our day to day lives to take care of the environment.

Climate and Ecology at the Horniman

In 2019 The Horniman Museum and Gardens declared a climate and ecological emergency. The creation and running of the ECC is a key part of our Climate and Ecology Manifesto which was announced in 2020.
