ornament (water transport: accessories)

Carved wooden canoe stern ornament from a single piece of hard wood. The ornament depicts a male human figure with arms raised, inside an arched frame that has been engraved with rows of shallow triangles. The figure's eyes are inlaid with chambered nautilus shell, and the ears are pierced to permit the suspension of two short loops of white glass trade beads.
