Shallow rectangular reed basket with lid secured by the handles passing through. The basket is made from Juncus sp, using the twined basketry technique which involves a mixture of plaiting and weaving.

Accompanying handwritten cloth label reads: 'Basket made by peasants in neighbourhood of Coimbra near the town of Figueira da Foz. Funcus sp. J. Henriquez 1879.'

Collection Information

These objects are only a part of our collections, of which there are more than 350,000 objects. This information comes from our collections database.
