sample (textiles); textile

Small strip of cotton textile embroidered with silk threads. The patterning comprises a central motif made up of two identical crosses, outlined in black on a cream ground, which also contains other smaller motifs, worked in pink, blue, green, red and black silks. Flanking the central motif is another composite motif. The larger is made up of two large and three smaller circular motifs, worked in the same coloured threads. The smaller has only four motifs. The ground is orange wool (?). The panel is bordered on three sides by a solid black line and one of the longer edges has a row of black hearts infilled, alternately with white and orange triangles.
