sample (textiles); textile

Small piece of cotton embroidered textile. A section has been cut away and part of the fabric has been overstitched and sewn up again. The patterning comprises two rows of alternating motifs (eight in the longer row, three in the shorter), set in an orange ground with pulled thread embroidery. One motif is an eight-pointed flower, with a red centre and green, blue and black petals, framed with four small black squares. The other, geometric, motif is worked in the same colours. The rows are framed with a solid black line and much of the border has a row of black hearts infilled with orange triangles.
