comb (hair ornament)

A wooden hair comb. Benin City, Nigeria. Before 1953. The comb has a wave-like pattern carved on its upper border. At the top of the comb and above the tines, there is a repeating pattern of slanted diamond shaped engravings.

Combs of this general type are made in Solomon Islands and as Fowler’s collection came from there, this could be from there. The detail of the ornamental bands might confirm this, but are hard to see in this photo.
