A woman's mourning outfit comprising a cloak, tunic and skirt. Cloak is of a rectangular piece of cloth, possibly jute or hessian, folded back on itself with the two sides stitched together part way along the edge. A piece of calico of roughly similar size has been very loosely tacked to the hessian a couple of inches above the join, and is possibly a hood. There are traces of red staining. The tunic is in the form of a very large jacket with sleeves made of loosely woven sacking, possibly jute. The front left piece crosses over the front right piece, which is shorter than the left side and the back. There is a strap of the same material sewn to the right underarm and a similar strap sewn to the left front at the bottom of the collar. The seams and the hem are loosely tacked in white cotton. The skirt is made from five pieces of Hessian or jute, which is roughly pleated along the top and attached to a waistband made of cambric with very neat stitching. The hem and seams however are roughly tacked together with white cotton.
