The Horniman Museum will be closed from 24-26 December. The Horniman Gardens will be closed 25 December only.
Milk or whey cask. Shaped like a drum, made with staves of equal length, held together by two wooden hoops. It has two handles, with a hole in the middle, through which a plaited woollen band is pressed, by which the cask is suspended in the sheep-fold. (Fir wood, hoops of linden wood). Height 170mm, diameter 285mm, capacity 5kg.
