stencil (textileworking: dyeing & printing); textile tool

Rectangular stencil for textile dyeing made from brown paper. The cut-out design consists of small heart-shaped foliate motifs (fuki= butterbur?) some of which are linked, and loosely arranged in ring form. The paper seems to have been made in 2 layers with a fine grid created from knotted hair or other fibre in between. The lines show in fine relief through the paper, and are left intact in the cut-out design.
