A sample of Chinese embroidery depicting a figure in a garden. The image is of a woman holding a fan or paper and sitting beside a stream near a pavilion. The motifs are executed in coloured silks on a cream silk satin weave ground. Handsewn to the base of the image is a blue satin woven silk border, with three very narrow braids attached. Seemingly part of a textile which would have been circular.
These objects are only a part of our collections, of which there are more than 350,000 objects. This information comes from our collections database.
