'Amerwan' amulet. A shell with a length of brown leather threaded through it. Attached to one end of the leather is a brass disc and lengths of red and green wool.

Item number 53 on Jeremy Keenan's item list. Keenan acquired this object from Umeyda. Price paid: 20 dinar. Keenan refers to a comparable type of 'amerwan' amulet in Johannes Nicolaisen's 'Ecology and culture of the pastoral Tuareg, with particular reference to the Tuareg of Ahaggar and Ayr' (Nicolaisen, 1963, p 258, fig 201).
