samples (textileworking: barkcloth making); barkcloth; tapa

Rectangular cream barkcloth with painted decoration in light and dark brown. The textile is seemingly from a larger piece, as some of the patterns are cut. 2 narrower strips have been sewn onto the main piece without matching the pattern. The design consists of 2 square areas, separated by a narrow rectangle. The squares seem to contain sections of similar motifs painted in dark brown. These show a building(?) with ornaments on the roof(?) against a rubbed light brown ground. The narrow rectangle contains what appears to be writing.
