fan box (personal protection)

Fan box with brass hinged lid, recetangular form with indented corners and sides, made of wood, covered in brown lacquer with two-coloured gold lacquer decoration. Installed inside is a moulded fan-shaped cardboard compartment for holding folding fan, pasted with red paper and blue cotton. The box is lined with red paper, padded underneath the lid, where a pheasant perched on rock and peony sprays are painted in water colour. On the top of the lid is decorated in gold lacquer with two seated men and a boy attendant in landscape, flanked by butterfly and floral design on either side, all within a lobed panel.
