
Circular shallow cone palm leaf hat, terindak matu, with a peg point, made of sheets of palm leaf held together with ribs of split bamboo radiating from peak to rim. Rim reinforced with red-painted rattan, bound to the hat at intervals with beige fibre in a lattice form. Decorated with red- and black-painted panels in the lower part; in the upper part are bands of patterning; the outermost a lattice of splits, the next band with the weft strands painted in a geometric pattern of black, yellow, blue and brown and red, then further latttice, a band painted in a variety of colours, and finally a black disc at the centre. The point held in place by the radiating red ribs. Underside plain leaf with only the stitch marks holding the leaves in place. Diameter 2' 6 3/8".
