112.13 Vessel rattles

Pellet bell of metal for a donkey.decorated with the face of a dragon - the 'guardian dragon' motif. The pellet is round with a slit in its lower half. The top of the bell has a projecting rectangle of metal with a hole bored through its centre, threaded with vegetable fibre. These bells were used for traders' pack animals . Given by Mrs P.C. Hardcastle.
