headdress (personal adornment)

Small feather headdress (Bedamuni: sii, kakara sii). A small headdress made from chicken feathers. Headdresses like these are worn by boys and young men just for fun. No special care is taken in the fabrication and conservation of these adornments.

In the late 1970s, when this headdress was collected, chickens were a very recent introduction in the region. Boys used to make these headdresses from various kinds of cockatoo feathers.
