The Horniman Museum will be closed from 24-26 December. The Horniman Gardens will be closed 25 December only.
'Awaji ningyo kashira'; Awaji puppet head, representing a male character known as 'Sanbaso'. It comsists of a painted wooden head on a wooden support, with an intrinsic string mechanism, moveable eyes, and hinged jaw. The puppet is wearing a tall black hat with textile trim and a brocade tie. The facial features and hair are painted on.
These objects are only a part of our collections, of which there are more than 350,000 objects. This information comes from our collections database. Some of this is incomplete and there may be errors. This part of the website is also still under construction, so there may be some fields repeated or incorrectly formatted information.
