belt (clothing: accessories)

A man's cotton money belt. Semi-circular in shape, it is made of natural cotton. It has an outer flap containing a compartment, and two compartments in the body of the belt. A long, commercially-made white braid is threaded through the top and secured in place with a strip of weft patterned fabric (continuous supplementary weft) wrapped around it, to stop the braid moving. The lower edges of the belt have an applied embroidered band, worked in counted threadwork. The decoration is an orange lattice on a red ground with specks of white.
