One of a pair of socks (carapi). Black woollen sock, with wide ribbing in diagonals at the top, the shin section in a complex moss stitch, then plain ribbing for the foot section which terminates with a small section at the toes knitted in red with a dentate edge. Around the ankle there is a band of cross-stitch embroidery in a floral design in pinks, browns, greens, blues and violet. A strip of narrow black ribbon is interwoven along the top of the sock to help to secure it. Part of woman’s costume from Tetovo, near Skopje, Macedonia.
