




Elaborately embroidered draw string Hausa trousers, gifted to be worn with the Hausa gown, 2014.199.1 (wando) (I). The trousers are made from 7cm strips of indigo cotton, woven on double-heddle portable loom (or horizontal frame treadle loom). The embroidery is in red, green, turquoise, and orange yarn, depicting a series of geometric shapes including interlocking ovals, concentric circles, cheques, plaits, diamonds, loops and concentric triangles.
