The lift will be out of service until Friday 28 June while we work on a replacement, and the Museum may be noisier at times due to these works.
One of a pair of ancestor figures, salang, made of Chinese coins strung together with cotton thread in the form of the upper half of a human body, the lower part with loose strands of coins. A painted wooden plaque, prerahi, representing the head at the top, with a moustache, indicating that this figure represents male ancestors. Hook at the top for suspension outside the household shrine.
These objects are only a part of our collections, of which there are more than 350,000 objects. This information comes from our collections database. Some of this is incomplete and there may be errors. This part of the website is also still under construction, so there may be some fields repeated or incorrectly formatted information.
