rattle

Anklet, a vessel rattle, worn resting on the top of a dancer’s foot. From Savu, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, made circa 2000. Made of woven lontar palm leaves, in the form of a rectangular container with rounded corners. It is filled with rattling seeds. A length of string is bound to three of the narrow sides of the container, and it passes through a separate six-sided flat strip also woven from lontar palm leaves. A strip of blue textile is wound round the string on the short side of the container.
