Combined gauntlet sword, steel. Long straight tangless blade riveted between two plates projecting from the gauntlet-type hilt of steel.Length 4 ft. 0 ½ in.

This gauntlet sword is from the Deccan. Gauntlet swords are an iconic weapon of the Deccan. In Mughal paintings soldiers who served in the Deccan are often depicted with gauntlet swords. The blade of this sword is European (it is marked with a European stamp). Toby Kapwel at the Wallace Collection, or if not the New York MET arms and armour curators could help to identify the stamp.
