tea brick

Brick of compressed, powdered tea in a rectangular block impressed with three Russian capital letters "A, B, W" within an oval frame in intaglio. Possibly made for the Russian and Siberian market. Tea bricks of this type were traded and used as currency in the early 20th century throughout China, Tibet, Mongolia, Russia and Centra Asia.
